Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII–IX
三菱 ランサーエボリューション
- Years
- 2001–2007
- Engine
- 4G63T 2.0L turbo inline-four
- Power
- 206–213kW
- Price in Japan
- ¥1.8m–¥6m; MR and RS variants command the premium
Active Yaw Control, a bulletproof iron-block four and rally-derived all-wheel drive. The IX MR with its six-speed and MIVEC head is the pick if you want the last and best version.
What costs money
- Track use — check for roll cages, harness bolts, drilled rotors and hot-tuned ECUs.
- Crank walk and worn transfer cases on high-kilometre cars.
- Rust in the rear arches and boot floor on snow-region cars.
- RS models stripped of ABS and rear LSD — great for rally, awkward for a road car.
What a good one looks like
- Grade 4 or 4.5 with an unmodified engine bay.
- Original Enkei or BBS wheels and untouched interior trim.
- Full stamped service book with regular oil changes.
Importing one
2001 cars have cleared 25 years for Australia; later cars need SEVS/RAW compliance. Fine for New Zealand at any age.
